Tom Cruise has exited as the lead in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., the remake of the classic TV series that Guy Ritchie will direct for Warner Bros. Cruise was scheduled to star in the film with Armie Hammer, but he has stepped out of the picture to focus on producing and starring in Mission: Impossible 5. Paramount and Skydance are now planning to begin shooting the latest installment of that franchise before year’s end. Warner Bros has a script they like, and a top director who’s expecting to direct U.N.C.L.E. in the fall. The timing proved too difficult and so Cruise stepped out to focus on M:I5.

While it might seem that Cruise could squeeze in the film before moving to M:I5, that’s not the way he has worked on the Paramount franchise. In the last film, Ghost Protocol, he was heavily involved in planning and performing death defying stunts that included running along the glass exterior of a skyscraper in Abu Dhabi, about 124 floors high. He’ll want to do something to top that, so while the script is being written by Drew Pearce for Cruise’s Jack Reacher helmer Christopher McQuarrie to direct, this is an accelerated process and it will become the focus of the rest of the year for Cruise. The actor remains on good terms with Warner Bros, recently completing the Doug Liman-directed science fiction film All You Need Is Kill, which will be released June 6, 2014.

One of our dear members, polleninthewind, was fortunate enough to attend the Bejing, China premiere of Oblivion.  Not only did she have the opportunity to meet Tom and get his autograph, she also was lucky enough to take a pic with him!  Below pollen shares the excitement of the meeting and what she thought of Tom ‘up close and personal’. 

“Vanilla Sky is the beginning of my admiration for Tom, I love his movies, I’m moved by his attitude to work, not only because I like him, but also he is one of the best men I’ve ever met, and no one can equal him, either as a movie star or an actor. From Beijing to Los Angeles, we lived in two different worlds separated by the Pacific Ocean, but as the song sings: THOUGH YOU ARE FAR AWAY… YOU ARE ALWAYS IN MY HEART. I’ve been hoping I’d have a chance to see him. After 12 years, with the release of his 35th movie OBLIVION, I learned that Tom would come to China, it seems like there’s a kind of powerful magic narrows the gap between Tom and me, I could get a closer look at my idol, all that sounds implausible, and it was. I didn’t believe that thing until I saw Tom with my eyes, there was really someone like him does exist: when you see him, time moves in slow motion; when he smiles, the whole world looks more beautiful. He is so gorgeous just like the shining sun, he is so beautiful can be called an exquisite art. And the most incredible thing about Tom is his pure soul, just look at him, a warm, attractive, gentle, kind and sweet person, you can’t do anything but love him. He’s so perfect, I just wonder when he’s younger, he must be the most breathtaking creature, almost like an unreal dream.I can’t stop staring at him, the blood drained from my head, I can’t think when he stood right beside me and signed on MI4 Shooting Diary, too many words I want to say to him but seem stuck in mind. MS. Lundberg is so nice, she took my picture with Tom. Suddenly I remembered the roses were still in my arms, I started shaking when I handed the flowers to Tom. Slowly, haltingly, a simply “I love you”, I said to him in a whisper. Tom looked into my eyes and a soft warm smile lit his face, he said thank you so beautiful thank you. I felt the desire to burst into tears surging up within me, just a little normal present, I have his thanks that I don’t deserve.He’s still one of the best men I’ve ever met, from that moment, everything seemed to make perfect sense to me, each prayer accepted, and each wish resigned. Tom Cruise, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.”

Tom attended the Star Trek  premiere after party in LA yesterday. He was spotted chatting with J.J. Abrams,  Christopher McQuarrie, Paramount Pictures Vice Chairman Rob Moore and Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures Brad Grey.

‘Iron Man 3′ co-writer Drew Pearce has landed the assignment for Paramount’s next Mission: Impossible installment.

Tom will star in and produce Mi5 and is expected to shoot the movie in the fall after filming Warner Bros.’The Man From U.N.C.L.E:’

Christopher McQuarrie is in discussions to direct the film, which is also being produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. Skydance Productions, which served as co-financiers and executive producers of the fourth installment, will work closely with the team in the development and production process.

Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol- the fourth installment in the franchise, which was first introduced in 1996 — earned nearly $700 million worldwide and marked Cruise’s highest-grossing film to date. The franchise has earned more than $2 billion, one of the most successful franchises in movie history.

Pearce is becoming a go-to writer for studio action tentpoles and among his credits is Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming  ‘Pacific Rim’. The scribe is currently working on an original spec that will serve as his directorial debut. Mary Parent, who is a producer on  Pac Rim, is attached to produce the project, which is not yet set up.

Warner Bros has pushed the release date for ‘All You Need Is Kill’ to June 6, 2014, from its original date of March 7, 2014. It will open in select international markets beginning May 30, two  weeks ahead of the start of the World Cup.
