It was announced today that the Friars Foundation — the charitable arm of the longstanding Friars Club — will present the award to Tom at the Friars Foundation Gala on June 12th at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
He is among only three other acting legends to receive the award in the club’s 108 year history.
Friars Club Abbot Jerry Lewis announced,
“Tom Cruise will join an elite group of only 3 other entertainment legends who have received our Icon Award, and whose work has made a global impact on our industry and changed the very face of cinema.”
The Foundation’s Chairman, Ambassador Joseph Zappala added,
“This will be an incredible night that will live forever in our club’s history. We are so proud to be presenting this unique honor to Tom Cruise whose humanitarian endeavors mirror his accomplishments in cinema and the arts.”

There have been lots of little updates regarding Tom’s current and future projects recently so lets get started!
We’ve been updated on the upcoming “Les Grossman Project” by the writer, Michael Bacall, who has finished the script and turned it into Paramount. He made the following comments to Collider recently:
“Paramount has the draft and I gather that they’re pretty happy with it. I think Tom Cruise probably has a lot of stuff on his plate right now and I think it’ll be a schedule thing more than anything. I wrote it for R because we had precedent with Tropic Thunder,” Bacall continued. “It’s actually a pretty heartfelt story. I had a lot of meetings with Mr Cruise and Mr [Ben] Stiller and it was crazy, it was a blast. I think we came up with some really fun stuff to give you an insight into who the guy is, so I’m hopeful that that’ll get up and running soon.”
We also have an exciting “Top Gun 2” update, which Tom himself recently confirmed is a good possibility!
Writer Peter Craig, who wrote ‘The Town’ with Ben Affleck, has been hired to write the project from scratch. Director Tony Scott is also involved. If the script is good, we may have Maverick in the cockpit sooner rather than later!
And last, but certainly not least, Tom and the family have decamped from Los Angeles to Baton Rouge, Louisiana so Tom can begin filming “Oblivion”, which is now being called “The Tom Cruise Sci-Fi Project”. Thanks to our dear friend Luci, we have a picture of the family shopping for groceries at a local market, no doubt stocking the kitchen of their rented home. Enjoy the pic!
